Life can hold both internal and external demands on the daily! As a result we may find ourselves striving mentally, urging ourselves to go full speed ahead, in an effort to complete everything on our to do and life’s daily list! This is where living in balance becomes so very important.
Now, I won’t lie – many of us who choose to live the Florida lifestyle do so because we’ve recognized it naturally slows us down and as a result we manage to more easily keep our lives in balance! We tend to go a little slower and not get so anxious about things beyond our control. Maybe it is because we happen to already live in a vacation destination. Yet, sometimes we all need a gentle reminder.
I usually like to reflect on the true definition of a word. It takes us to the root of the meaning and generally offers insight we may otherwise take for granted. The definition of balance in verb form means…
“keep or put (something) in a steady position so that it does not fall. • offset or compare the value of (one thing) with another”
This word absolutely applies to all of life. One must manage to steady the different aspects of their life to avoid a toppling effect and recognize the trade-offs and the offset decisions that are made in life every day. How do you manage time and energy as it applies to life…to strike that balance? What have you been willing to sacrifice to achieve what you perceive as balance? Have they been healthy sacrifices or sacrifices that came at an expense or perhaps even both? Balance comes in physical, emotional, and spiritual form. Living life in balance may mean something different to each individual. Yet, these are interesting concepts that merit exploration.
Since learning how to live a balanced lifestyle is different for each individual – it often presents as a spectrum to each one of us. For some it is an inherent natural skill, for some it calls for concentration and practice, for others it may mean a strict adherence to a particular lifestyle and for yet even others, they may never truly master the ability. Regardless, living a balanced life necessitates we recognize and live from the center of our being. Generally this means consciously slowing our physical and mental capacities and responsibilities to offer space for peace, rest, contemplative guidance, and reception to the joys of living!
“We have overstretched our personal boundaries and forgotten that true happiness comes from living an authentic life fueled with a sense of purpose and balance.” – Dr. Kathleen Hall
“Happiness is not a matter of intensity but of balance, order, rhythm, and harmony.” – Thomas Merton
Yet the wonderful thing about living a balanced lifestyle, it is everyone’s own personal journey of discovery!
As always…Go in love,
